Saw you at the party late

I went to grab a beer
I hate the taste
It’s such a waste
But it helps to quell the fear

When I mustered courage

You were talking to some guy
And he looked cool
And really tall
So I just ended up getting high

And I talked rubbish all night

You came over and said hey
But I was fried
My mouth had dried
And I didn’t know what to say

You wrote a number on a napkin

I’ve no idea why you did
But I won’t call
I’ll just stall
Pretend I’m not interested

Because life’s disappointing enough

This way I’ll have perfect mystery
We could have been good
But I might have misunderstood
Even so this seems a hollow victory
